Here we go!

Our first official blog post. And, as a first blog post, I thought I’d provide an overview of what we hope to accomplish by communicating with our community on a regular basis.

Perhaps I should start by defining what I mean by community… Tech Capital has traditionally been focused on investing in high tech companies based in Waterloo Region in Ontario, Canada. Over the past couple of years our geographic investment mandate has expanded and we’ve made investments in Ottawa and Toronto.

But beyond our geographic investment mandate, our hope is that this blog reaches well beyond the Waterloo/Ottawa/Toronto corridor to the places where our portfolio companies are doing business or hope to do business: other regions of Canada, down into the US and to countries abroad.

“You know there really is something to this internet thing…” especially as it relates to geography and reach. We’re using the internet and social networking tools everyday to help bridge the distance and create relationships with people all over the world. This blog will be one of the tools that we use to help people learn more about Tech Capital, our portfolio companies, and all of our diverse colourful personalities. If you want even more colour, you can follow our Twitter streams listed in the left hand column of this blog. :)

We’re also hoping that by communicating more with you, you might offer feedback, insight, and direction that we wouldn’t have access to otherwise. Please feel free to reach out to any one of us. We’d love to meet you.

In terms of blog content, here’s a selection of topics we’re hoping to cover over the next few weeks/months/years:

  • Interviews with executives/employees of our portfolio companies and the Tech Capital team
  • Lessons learned, best practices, and insight into how we like to build tech companies
  • Upcoming Tech Capital events
  • Tech Capital and portfolio company news and commentary
  • New investment announcements and our rationale for making these investments
  • Highlights and interesting tidbits from events we attend
  • Interesting VC and entrepreneur news
  • … and of course, poker strategy

Obviously, this list of topics will change over time — hopefully through feedback from you.

So that’s it in a nutshell. Enjoy!
